Peer Review Procedures

  • The Journal platform [Journal of Sustainable Cities & Built Environment] sends an email notification to the journal editor-in-chief once the author submits a manuscript.
  • The journal editor-in-chief reviews the manuscript within one working day. He/She checks the scope ethical requirement and ensures manuscript relevancy to the scope and author(s), adhering to the ethical requirements. The contents are checked via Turnitin for plagiarism and AI detection.
  • The journal editor-in-chief either rejects the manuscript or assigns an editor and enables the platform to notify the editor via email.
  • The Journal editor reviews the manuscript and assigns two reviewers on the platform who have a solid background in the manuscript.
  • The reviewers receive email notifications from the platform with the title and abstract of the manuscript, reviewer must decide to accept or reject to review the manuscript within 2 working days.
  • The editor receives email notification with the decision of reviewers once He/She received 2 acceptances for peer reviews. He notes that the process of review is started by each one of the reviewers.
  • The system sends automatic reminders to the reviewer if the due date [2 weeks] has passed within 2 days.
  • The reviewer shall record the judgment in specific criteria including but not limited to (worth investigation, new topic and data, clarity of methodology, up to date references, conclusions relevancy to the data, format readability, Language, etc.) the reviews recommend one of the decisions (Accept Submission, Revision Required, Resubmit for Review, Resubmit Elsewhere, or Decline Submission)
  • The editor reviews all reviewers’ judgments and decides either to accept the judgment or nominate one more reviewer if their inconsonances of the recommendations.
  • The editor communicates the accepted judgments with the corresponding author to edit the manuscript and address the gaps (if required)
  • According to the reviewers’ feedback, the edited manuscript might go through another round(s) of revision, or the editor may make sure that the edited manuscript addresses the reviewer’s feedback.
  • Once the manuscript is accepted by the editor, the editor-in-chief reviews all comments and manuscript version communicate the final decision with the author via the journal platform.
  • After the author proofreading don, the editor-in-chief disabled the author’s authority of changes.
  • The production process starts by assigning the DOI link and publishing the final version of the article.
